About

About Didcot Town FC.

Didcot Town Football Club, founded in 1907, established a strong presence in early regional leagues, notably competing in the North Berks League and later the Reading and Metropolitan Leagues. Their pioneering spirit shone brightly as they became founder members of the Hellenic League in 1953, winning the championship in their very first attempt. After a brief return to the Metropolitan League, they rejoined the Hellenic League Premier Division in 1963, embarking on a thirteen-season tenure in the top flight. Demonstrating remarkable resilience, they swiftly bounced back to become Division One champions the season after a brief relegation. They consistently proved their strength in the Hellenic League, establishing a continuous presence in its top flight from the 1995–96 season. A highlight came in 2004–05 when, under manager Stuart Peace, they narrowly missed the league title but magnificently triumphed in the FA Vase, beating A.F.C. Sudbury to claim the prestigious trophy. The following season, they achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first team in Hellenic League history to accrue 100 points in a season, securing the league title and earning promotion to the Southern League Division One South & West.

Didcot Town continued their ascent, achieving promotion to the Southern Football League Premier Division in May 2009 by winning a thrilling play-off final against AFC Totton after extra time. This impressive feat saw them overcome the top three teams in the league – Truro City, Windsor and Eton, and AFC Totton – all in away matches. The club garnered nationwide attention in the 2015–16 season with a memorable run to the FA Cup first round proper, culminating in a televised home tie against Exeter City on BT Sport. The return of successful figures like Ian Concannon and Jamie Heapy as joint managers in November 2013, and later Jamie Heapy as sole manager, further solidified their leadership. Their dedication bore fruit in the 2022–23 season, as Didcot Town proudly secured promotion back to the Premier Division, defeating Ware in a hard-fought play-off final.
